Praise to those states where we already have a full slate of house candidates – Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Hawaii, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming.

It is also interesting to note that we have only one race left to fill in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and West Virginia. Thats 16 states with a full slate (17 when I can conform Unger in WV-02) and 6 states with one race to fill! That is almost half the states full or nearly full 17 months before election day, an impressive feat indeed!

Please note that in some races others at the racetracker site have confirmed candidates that I haven’t. This is because to satisfy me a confirmed candidate has either filed with the FEC, The Sec of State or has an active campaign website, or even if they come and blog and say yep I am running. Others are not so rigorous.

It is also great to see candidates in VA-06 and TX-11, 2 of 10 districts we did not contest in 2006!

We are well on track to beat the 425 races we contested in 2006.

  1. Tom Petri in the 6thCD in Wisconsin probably will face his first opponent in nearly a decade in 2008.

Roger Kittleson was given prominent speaking time at the 2007 Wi. State Dem. Convention this past weekend and Wi. Dem. party chair Joe Winecke is talking up a Kittleson campaign against Petri in 2008.

So chances are excellent that Petri will not be getting the free ride in 2008 that he has become accustomed to.

  2. The two potential challengers in the 9th are Gary Peters and Nancy Skinner.

Nancy ran last year. I worked on that campaign. It was a disaster. Without pointing fingers, let’s just say that Skinner For Congress performed below Democratic base in the district. Many believe she lost because the national support was not there, however the race was on the DCCC’s radar early in the year…then they dropped it.

Probably a good move on their part, because Gary Peters would be a great candidate. He is a strong campaigner. The Detroit News reported that “Peters has gotten enthusiastic compliments from Democrats in Washington”.

  3. After the beating we received on June 19th (fun facts: June 19th is also the 29th birthday of the cartoon Garfield and the eighth anniversary of Stephen kings car accident) how long do you think it’ll be until someone steps up?
